Washington DC Marathi Kala Mandal

Founded in 1975 with the objective of promoting and preserving the arts, the Marathi Kala Mandal organizes a variety of programs that resonate with the Marathi community. These include plays, classical/semi-classical music, dance, and art/sculpture exhibitions, featuring both local and visiting artists. The Mandal also actively supports Marathi schools and programs initiated by the Brihan Maharashtra Mandal.


Marathi Kala Mandal – DC is a non-profit and tax-exempt organization whose primary purpose is to preserve and promote Marathi culture in the Washington DC area. Anyone interested in the Marathi language, culture, and civilization can become a member. There are no restrictions based on religion, gender, race, color, region, or nationality for membership. Currently, the Marathi Kala Mandal has over 500 members residing in Washington DC, Virginia, and Maryland.


The goal of the Marathi Kala Mandal is to preserve and promote Marathi culture and civilization and to bring the Marathi community together. The Mandal organizes various programs in collaboration with other associations and Indian organizations, providing a platform for the artistic talents of its Marathi members in music, dance, and drama. Additionally, it invites emerging and popular artists from India to maintain a connection with the homeland. Various Indian and Marathi festivals are celebrated to preserve the cultural heritage.


Marathi Kala Mandal is affiliated with the Brihan Maharashtra Mandal. All Marathi associations in North America are organized under the umbrella of the Brihan Maharashtra Mandal.
